There's nothing quite like a good night's sleep, and with life going at 200 miles an hour, I'm a girl who needs her nap time. I don't get as much sleep as I would like, and am always looking for tips, tricks- and comfy bedding that will help me get the rest I need.

I'm on somewhat of a decorating spree at the moment, so the arrival of How They Decorated: Inspiration from Great Women of the Twentieth Century has come at the perfect time!

This book captures the individual approaches of sixteen icons of style: Lady Diana Cooper, Evangeline Bruce, Louise de Vilmorin, Sybil Connolly, Hélène Rochas, Gabrielle van Zuylen, Mona von Bismarck, Pauline de Rothschild, Babe Paley, Elsa Schiaparelli, Fleur Cowles, Pauline Trigère, Bunny Mellon, Dominique de Menil, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Lesley Blanch. Author P. Gaye Tapp analyzes each of her subjects’ refined way of living, how each embellished her residences (or left them elegantly stark), and the long-lasting effects on today’s generation of designers and connoisseurs of beauty.

The book is presented in four sections that describe the aesthetic approaches that the women took in decorating their abodes: “The Fashionably Chic”, “The Unconventional Eye”, “In the Grand Manner”, and “Legacy Style”. Each interior illustrates the crucial aspect of the woman’s definitive taste. Some worked closely with decorating legends such as John Fowler, Albert Hadley, Billy Baldwin, Syrie Maugham, and Jean-Michel Frank. Others took to the task of decorating single-handedly—like Pauline Trigère, Sybil Connolly,  and Fleur Cowles. The interiors of these trendsetting women defied their time and inspire and delight to this day. In How They Decorated, one can learn from the most notable style muses of the last century.

Theresa May: The Enigmatic Prime Minister

What makes Theresa May such a fascinating character is that we don't know much about her. From her upbringing as the daughter a vicar, to the longest serving (and most successful) Home Secretary, Theresa May is a leader we are intrigued by.

This new biography released earlier this month by Biteback and written by award-winning political journalist Rosa Prince, aims to educate us about our Prime Minister, and casts the light on the personal character behind the professional image.

I enjoyed finding out more about May's time as a local councillor, her attempts to be selected as a parliamentary candidate and her early days as the MP for Maidenhead. It was also great to read more about her role as Conservative Party Chairman and the various positions she held in the Shadow Cabinet. 

Perhaps what is most impressive is her record as Home Secretary. From tackling modern slavery to the fight against terror, it's evident that May is a tough character, cemented in her principles and duty to do her very best. 

May has frequently stated that politics is not a game, and from this book you understand that she is truly committed to public service and positively effecting the lives of others. Whilst there are no shocking revelations or ultra new information in this biography, the interviews with various parliamentary colleagues and party members does provide a warm and fascinating insight into May's personal and professional life. And, unsurprisingly, I really enjoyed the anecdotes about May's love of fashion! 

This is a great book to read if you want to find out more about our Prime Minister, and considering the quick turn-around that Prince had to meet, the level of research and detail is impressive. A must-read for any politics fan! 

New Year, New Cooking with Gousto

Let's start 2017 off the right way with some delicious, healthy food! I'm a big fan of the Gousto meal boxes, and after a long day of work and commuting, the last thing anyone wants to think about is having to prepare a meal completely from scratch.

Gousto is here to help, with a whole host of meal ideas complete with itemised ingredients. Gousto takes the hassle out of preparing food for mealtime, with speedy recipes containing healthy, good for you ingredients.

Take the Creamy Butter Chicken with Herby Rice. From prep to plate, this dish took me about thirty minutes to make. In between I was able to do other tasks like sorting my mail and clearing out my inbox, all whilst not losing my attention on the delicious dish cooking away on the stove. (This was between recording the cooking process!)

The dish was extremely tasty and fully prepared using the fresh ingredients provided by Gousto. I felt like I had consumed a decent, hearty meal and didn't need to snack or have dessert once I had finished. This is always the danger when you eat food that is quick to prepare. Eating becomes just another task to cross off the to do list, and not a period of your day where you can sit down and actually switch off from the stresses and strains of everyday life. Our friends on the continent have their attitude to mealtimes completely on point.


I also tried the Fish with Dill Mayo and Crispy Potatoes from Gousto. This was also an easy recipe to replicate, and took about twenty minutes from prep to plate. I added a courgette and some peppers to the crispy potato part of the recipe for a bit of colour and to up my veggie intake. This light and delicious meal was a firm favourite in my household, and it's one which we will be repeating in the future.


Gousto's meal boxes are definitely a helping hand on the path to healthy living. For those of us working the 9-5 or having a schedule which can be unpredictable, the boxes are a practical way to creating delicious meals without the hassle. For some of the recipes you could even prepare the vegetables or sauces ahead of time, leaving you with the easy task of cooking meat or fish or even reheating certain dishes once you are ready to eat.

Jo Malone- My Story

Jo Malone is one of Britain's well known and best loved entrepreneurs, synonymous with the Jo Malone fragrance line which she sold to Estee Lauder in 1999.

Taylor Swift: This Is Our Song

If you are a Swiftie then rejoice- this is the book for you! After ten years of global superstardom, Taylor Swift's fans have teamed up with Simon & Schuster to create a special book dedicated to why TS is such an icon.

A tribute to Swift, fans across the US collaborated to create a unique scrapbook containing everything you would want to know- and revisit about the star. Even though I am a fan of Swift's music, I don't listen as regularly as her superfans! I particularly enjoyed reading the stories behind the lyrics - and the infamous 'is Taylor Swift in New Zealand?' story.

Capturing Fashion: Derujinsky

There's nothing more relaxing then sitting down with an oversized fashion book and a cup of tea - and Capturing Fashion Derujinsky has arrived at the right time! It's been a hectic few weeks of work and general life stuff, so this book is the perfect relaxing read!

Within the pages, discover the innovative photography of Gleb Derujinsky, one of the most unique and creative photographers of the twentieth century.

Gleb Derujinsky’s career as a fashion photographer took hold in the golden age of European haute couture, when Balenciaga and Pierre Balmain were at the top of their game. Derujinsky convinced his editors Carmel Snow and Diana Vreeland to send him around the world to photograph beautiful models—like Carmen Dell’Orefice and his future wife Ruth Neumann—draped in expensive gowns juxtaposed against rough desert dunes or a glittering ocean horizon at sunset. His ideas were revolutionary and they gave rise to the mystique and glamour that is now pervasive in fashion.

Derujinsky was the quintessential Renaissance man—photographer, cinematographer and commercial director, inventor, WWII veteran, world traveler, jewelry designer, musician, ski instructor, race car driver, and champion glider pilot. As a teenager, he became the youngest member of The Camera Club of New York. His photographs appeared in major lifestyle magazines before he began to work primarily for Harper’s Bazaar from 1950–70. This is the first monograph to celebrate his major contributions to the history of fashion and photography and contains over 200 black and white and colour photographs.

Derujinsky passed away in 2011, and as one of the most sought after fashion photographers of his time, his life and legacy still lives on thanks to publications like Town & Country, Harper's Bazaar and Glamour.

Lancel is one of my favourite French designers so it's pretty exciting to see the release of a new book covering its history.

Feminist Fight Club by Jessica Bennett

Cooking with Gousto: testing out the newest food box!

It's safe to say my skills in the kitchen are pretty limited. I love to watch cooking shows (the Barefoot Contessa being my favourite!) but I can never seem to match the culinary delights that are created on the screen.

Gousto is quickly solving this problem! Over the weekend I tested out their food delivery boxes, and it was an easy and fun way of testing out some new recipes with some delicious produce!

Gousto delivers fresh food boxes to your door, with options available for both 2 and 4 people. With different recipes to choose from every week, there are delicious options for veggies and carnivores alike. We opted for two meat options - the Beef, Apricot and Harissa Meatballs and the Crispy Asian Pepper Chicken.

After placing my order, the box arrived quickly at the allocated time and was neatly chilled thanks to some hi-tech packaging. I was really impressed by the speed and quality of the packaging and how easy it was to separate out to the relevant cupboards and fridge.

Full disclaimer: I did have some help putting together these two meals (thanks Mum!) How else could I have taken pictures and recorded the process!? But the two recipes were simple and easy to make with the help of the step by step cards.

Saturday night's meal was the Beef, Apricot and Harissa Meatballs. Taking about 20 minutes to prepare and even shorter to cook, this was perhaps my favourite of the two meals. Full of flavour and spice, I'll be recreating this recipe again in the future.

For Sunday lunch we tried out the Crispy Asian Pepper Chicken. Whilst really tasty, the chicken thigh meat was a little fatty (something which increased the prep time.) The end result was still worth it, and I'd definitely try this recipe again.

This was the first meal or subscription type box that I had tried and I was really impressed with the experience. From start to finish the Gousto journey was enjoyable and hassle free and I'm looking forward to trying out some of their recipes in the future.

In the Name of Gucci

In the Name of Gucci: A Memoir, by Patricia Gucci is the first book written by a direct descendant of Guccio Gucci—Patricia’s grandfather and the company’s founder.  It chronicles her life as the secret love child of Aldo Gucci and Bruna—the woman he fell in love with when she was just eighteen, and remained at his side until his death at 84 years of age. What started out as an affair became a lifelong commitment and for the last 20 years of his life, long after he had been estranged from his first wife Olwen, it was Bruna who was considered his wife in the US, culminating with their marriage in the 1980s. Personalising my next trip!

Travelling is one of my favourite things to do, and I'm excited for a big trip that I've got planned for April!

I've always had a fascination with maps, often gazing at our world and plotting my next journey. When I was younger I would write endless lists of countries to visit and places to see, and it was always exciting to cross off destinations when I had finally been there.

If like me, you're prone to losing things, then Tile is for you. The office keys are something which I usually misplace (the curse of changing handbags) and there is always a mad panic when I need to be out the door, but the keys are nowhere to be found!

I am super conscious about keeping hydrated, and try to drink the recommended amount of water every day. One thing that really irritates me is the number of plastic bottles that are around, and if I'm out and about and have forgotten to bring a drink with me, I end up purchasing another plastic bottle of water.

My use of plastic bottles will be gone thanks to S'well. S'well was launched in 2010 by Sarah Kauss who was also on a quest to rid the world of plastic bottles. In the US alone, an estimated 50 billion plastic bottles are dumped in landfill sites. Across the world, it is estimated that 200 billion reach the same fate.

I love that S'well has so many options to choose from! From stone to wood, glitter to satin, you will be spoilt for choice when deciding what to pick! In Review: Art and Sole by Jane Gershon Weitzman

Art & Sole is the perfect book for shoe lovers. Written by Jane Gershon Weitzman, this book showcases approximately 150 shoes of the more than 1,000 she discovered and commissioned for the windows of the first Stuart Weitzman retail shop on Madison Avenue in the mid‐1990s. Using the best of this collecPon, many of the shoes are in printed form for the first time. Jane Gershon Weitzman was the Executive Vice President of Stuart Weitzman and the first Vice President of Stuart Weitzman Retail. She spearheaded philanthropy for the company by generating funds to support breast and ovarian cancer research and awareness. Her efforts were brought to life through innovative charity events on the brand’s website, such as the Stuart Weitzman Celebrity Breast Cancer Shoe Auction, and its retail stores. She serves on the Trust Board of the Boston Children’s Hospital.
