Marbelized Ceramics at AERIN

I'm in a refresh mood at the moment, and August will be spent redoing my home office. These marbelized ceramic items from AERIN have caught my eye- they would be the perfect accessory for some new shelves that are coming my way!

My favourite is the curved clay vase in a blue marbelized pattern. A stunning centrepiece and item in its own right.

New Year, New Workspace

I'm all for creating manageable New Year resolutions, and this year, sorting out my workspace is at the top of the list.

I'll be using my home office more than ever this year, and getting into my new routine requires a drastic rethink of my current workspace. I'll be ditching the piles of paper for a more tidy filing system, banning the clutter and keeping only the essentials close-by.

Whilst I work through an awful lot of stuff, these pictures will provide me with endless workspace inspiration. Grab a cup of something warm and dream along with me...

Decorate your Door

There's nothing more that puts a smile on my face when I see a fun doormat! Who wouldn't want to enter a shop, cafe or home that really wants to welcome you?!

These awesome doormats by Mark & Graham are perfect and I'm super tempted to purchase one, especially one with my monogram!

They would also make a great housewarming or wedding gift - super unique and practical at the same time!

Blue is one of my favourite colours, and I am loving the new blue shagreen home collection from AERIN!

It's calming hue would make these pieces perfect for your bedroom, and a great conversation piece whilst entertaining friends.

As spring transitions into summer, the latest home décor trends are coming to light.  With an eye toward staying-power, here are a few standouts making the scene: periwinkle colors, linen upholstery, and mixed metallics. Whether you’re looking to make a bold statement with a major furniture purchase or just dabble in a few decorative accessories, here are some tips for successfully updating the look of your home.

Periwinkle
If violet and baby blue had a lovechild it would be periwinkle. Refreshing and powdery, with just the right amount of gray to keep it from feeling too sweet, pale periwinkle is the coolest color to try this summer.

• Brighten a bookcase or table top with periwinkle glazed ceramics. (Think pitchers, candleholders, and vases.)
• Refresh the exterior of your home by painting your front door or shutters periwinkle.
• For a super girly color palette, combine periwinkle with hot pink and gold.
• Try periwinkle in a bathroom (with lots of white) for a soothing, spa-like feel.
• Add a surprise to your drawers or by lining them with periwinkle patterned paper or fabric.

Linen Upholstery

Light, neutral, and breathable, linen is a go-to fabric for summertime. Although it’s a timeless choice, linen is having a bit of resurgence lately, with everything from beds and sofas to windows and pillows coming swathed in this luxurious fabric.

• On large pieces of furniture, pair linen with nailhead trim for a tailored look.

• Embrace the casual side of linen—wrinkles, frayed edges, and all!

• Dress your bed in linen sheets for the ultimate in breathable bedding that gets better with time.

• For window treatments that let in just the right amount of light and look ultra-rich, try linen sheers.

Mixed Metallics

Long-gone are the days where you had to choose one metal finish and stick with it. Now, it’s acceptable—nay, chic!—to combine silver with gold, copper, bronze, brass, and everything in between.

Tips on Mixing Metals

• Mix metallics with mirrored finishes to multiply their reflective qualities. 

• Add complexity, variation, and a sense of depth to a room by layering mixed metallics throughout the space.

• Combine shiny metallics with industrial finishes for a refreshed vintage look. 

• Try creating a small group of mixed metallic accessories, such as a tray with a framed photo and a candleholder.

• If pairing gold with silver still feels a little risky, consider mixing gold with other warm metallics like brass and copper.

Fall Decor Trends with Wayfair.com's Catie Parrish

Whilst Fall fashion is one of my favorite things, I'm also really passionate about Fall decorating trends. Having just purchased some new furniture for my study, I'm looking to see how else I can improve my living space. 

Catie Parrish, a home style expert from Wayfair.com has given us some fantastic tips on how you can spruce up your home with this year's Fall decor trends.

With the summer season coming to a close, autumn-inspired home décor trends are coming out in full force with rich jewel tones, bright velvets, and masculine fabrics being the key players. Luckily, making these fabulous fall updates is easier than you think.

To start, jewel tones are back and bolder than ever for fall, with splashes of bright amethyst, sparkling sapphire, warm gold, ruby red, deep purple, and blood orange popping up everywhere.

Tips on incorporating this tone:

• Experiment with these rich colors subtly through throw pillows, blankets, and small accessories.
• Amber, a cousin to of-the-moment citron, has all the boldness of gold without the sparkle. Try an upholstered chair or throw pillow in this color.
• Pair jeweled tones with deep neutrals, such as charcoal gray, chocolate brown, and black. 
• Textured fabrics that reflect light help play up the drama of bold colors—think velvet, leather, and silk.
• If you're wary about combining too many jewel tones, stick to solid-colored accessories, which are easier to group together than patterned accents.

Next, incorporate luxurious velvets in bright colors to your décor. From ottomans in Barbie pink, to tufted club chairs clad in brilliant cerulean blue, this fabric provides a plush texture and sense of cozy comfort that everyone can appreciate. 

Tips on incorporating this texture:

• Velvet, while not necessarily fragile, is not super durable. Save this fabric for furniture doesn’t get heavy wear. 
• Velvet is such a plush texture that a little can go a long way. Consider just a throw pillow or two. 
• On the other hand, embrace this trend whole-heartedly by using velvet in your bedding (an unexpected surprise.) Velvet comforters truly are statement pieces.

This season, we're seeing a surge in traditional menswear fabrics used on upholstered furniture, pillows, lamps, and more. By utilizing subtle patterns like tweed, herringbone, and pinstripe and pairing them with impeccable tailoring, you have the ability to craft a minimalist look that's crisp and sophisticated.

Tips on incorporating this trend:

• A cozy throw or pillow in a bold houndstooth print or nubby tweed texture is an easy way to incorporate this trend into your design esthetic without changing much. For a layered look, try a couple rows of pillows in an eye-catching mix of prints, patterns, and fabrics.
• Get a high-end look by pairing traditionally dark menswear colors such as brown, navy, or gray with creams, light blues, and reds. Accessorize with leather, tortoise shell, and hand-rubbed wood finishes to complete the look.

I'm a big admirer of Aerin Lauder, her lifestyle and her businesses. Lauder's firm, simply called 'Aerin,' ensures that stylish living is at the very core.  Envisioned as a cosmetics, fashion and furnishings company, Aerin made its debut last year with beauty products, scented candles and home accessories, and expanded this year to included footwear, sunglasses and jewels. A fabric and rug collection has just launched, and furniture and lighting will be available in September.
