Teresa Heinz suffering from breast cancer
23.12.09
Sad news today as I hear that Teresa Heinz, and individual who is a great inspiration for me, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. We wish her a speedy and healthy recovery, and both her and her family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Teresa spoke to the AP about mammograms and the current controversy over what age a woman should be screened:

Senator Feinstein's Sophisticated Scarf
12.12.09
Amid the talk of the war in Afghanistan and healthcare on State of the Union last Sunday, my eye was drawn to the scarf draped around Senator Feinstein's neck. I immediately recognized the pattern as the stained glass West Rose Window of Washington National Cathedral, the intricate details and eye-catching colors making this scarf a truly special accessory.

Capitol Hill's Christmas Tree has arrived!
3.12.09
The Capitol Christmas tree arrived Monday from Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in Arizona. The tree will stand on the Capitol's West Lawn and will be decorated with 5000 ornaments from residents across Arizona, the theme being "Arizona's Gift from the Grand Canyon State."
The 85 foot tall blue spruce will be lighted by Speaker Pelosi during a December 8th twilight ceremony. The event will be led by Stephen T. Ayers, acting architect of the Capitol. The tree and the lighting has been a tradition since 1964, and will be lighted from nightfall until 11pm until New Year's Day.
"Each year, the arrival of the Capitol Christmas tree kicks off a joyous holiday time," said Speaker Pelosi. "May 'the people's tree' light the way for blessed and happy holidays."
