30 Years of Celebration Anniversary Benefit

For readers in Los Angeles and the wider area- make sure you get your tickets for the Celebration Theatre's 30th Anniversary!

A benefit is being held at the Colony Theatre in downtown Burbank to celebrate 30 years of Celebration's commitment to supporting the LGBT community. Individuals including Jane Lynch, Sean Hayes, Alfred Molina and Jane Leeves will be giving special performances, and friend of Political Style, Sharon Lawrence, will be honoured with the Vibrant Voice Award.

Tickets range from $30-$200, and are available from Celebration Theatre Online.

As Election Day draws ever closer, The Voter Participation Center is encouraging un-registered voters to register through the release of their 'Let One Voice Emerge' Video.

Featuring vocals from Fergie, Jenna Ushkowitz, Patti Austin and Keke Palmer, the video also features Sharon Lawrence, Sophia Bush, Seth Green, Alyssa Milano, Amy Smart and Alexa Vega amongst others.

'Let One Voice Emerge' reminds can be downloaded here for free, as well as watching exclusive outtakes and a message from Dr Maya Angelou.

"L.O.V.E - Let One Voice Emerge" is a non-partisan campaign to reach out to the largest group of non-voters in America — nearly 20 million unmarried women — and to support the important work of The Voter Participation Center and their partners. The Voter Participation Center's mission on behalf of the Rising American Electorate (unmarried women, persons of color and young people) is to register and encourage these groups to the polls, which aligns with the goal of our campaign.

Chasing the Hill- An Exclusive Interview with Sharon Lawrence

People both inside and outside DC are talking about Chasing the Hill, the new drama series which follows the reelection campaign of a Democratic representative from California struggling to fight off a primary challenger. Robin Weigert plays Rep. Kristina Ryan, the show's lead role.

Episode 2 goes live today, and we caught up with Sharon Lawrence to chat about her role as the Mayor of Los Angeles in the show.


"I met the creator Brent Roske (of Chasing the Hill) at a short film festival. The environment of festivals like these encourages and promotes independent projects, guerrilla style production and a quick turn around time. We were all celebrating that style of operation when he told be about this new project, and that Richard Schiff, who I know and adore and Robin Weigert whom I also admire were involved.

A few days later I received a formal offer to participate in his next episode of Chasing the Hill to play the Mayor of LA, which was syncronsicity for me as I am supporting Wendy Gruel, whom I believe is the right choice this election and if elected, would be the first female mayor of this city.

His offer included the link to the first episode. I loved what I saw, thought it was well worth $1.99 to download. The schedule of the shoot worked for me, and I was delighted with their no nonsense run and gun operation! I am looking forward to how the creators incorporate their visit to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte with several real politicos. Stay tuned to this timely stuff!"

Sharon Lawrence talks Drop Dead Diva

Sharon Lawrence returns to Drop Dead Diva this Sunday (12th August) reprising her role as Bobbie Dobkins, mother of the show's main character, Deb. In Season One, the sudden death of aspiring model Deb and her subsequent inhabitation of the body of recently deceased lawyer Jane sets the scene for a fantasy television series like no other.

"I've been playing Bobbie Dobkins on Drop Dead Diva since the series began four years ago, and from the first read of the script, I was attracted to this story employing fantasy and magic realism to explore second chances and seeing the world through different eyes," Sharon tells us.

"Playing Bobbie has allowed me to contribute truths that are deep and honest about modern women, helping us to reassess what is valuable in how we see ourselves and the world around us."

"This particular episode examines how Bobbie pushed Deb when she was a young dancer and the unintended damaged that occurred. It is so satisfying to work with the creative team because they find a deeper resolve to these authentic conflicts. Bobbie is not just some stereotypical Mom, and despite the grief of losing her daughter, Bobbie feels a close connection to Jane- something which provides healing and transformation for both women."

"Both the character and I have a rich evolving bond with Brooke Elliott who plays the title role, and it   really makes the heartstrings so real to play."

This episode of Drop Dead Diva (titled 'Lady Parts') airs this Sunday (12th August) at 9/8c on Lifetime.
