In this week's Discovering DC I am delighted to feature Cori Sue Morris, from Bitches Who Brunch!
What's your history with DC?
I’ve lived in Logan Circle since I moved to Washington, D.C., nearly four years ago. I’ve lived in four places in a four-block radius of Whole Foods on P Street. I’m a huge fan of exploring new things and neighborhoods, but I refuse to abandon the convenience, lifestyle, and great amenities that Logan Circle offers.
It’s such a dynamic neighborhood, with people out-and-about, heading to run errands, to the gym, to meet up with friends. It’s very friendly and bustling community, and I have everything I need—gym, pool, yoga studio, bank, Whole Foods—right there. I love it.
Not only is Logan a hot spot for restaurants, but it’s also in the center of all the other neighborhoods—U Street, Columbia Heights, Dupont, downtown, Chinatown, Georgetown—you can walk to all of them pretty easily. I like to say I can get anywhere in 15 minutes.
Logan Circle is wonderful because, living on 14th Street, there’s always a new restaurant. And, when making plans, people usually come to me. Best of all, my co-Bitch Becca bought a condo close to me last year, so now she’s in the neighborhood, too.

Discovering DC - what are your favorite places to shop/eat/go with friends/people watch?
I’m a big fan of tapas restaurants and wine bars. So, for dinner, I’ll walk over to
Estadio,
Vinoteca, or
Dickson Wine Bar. Policy also has an amazing all-night happy hour on Mondays and half-priced wine night on Wednesdays, and their truffle French fries are TDF (to-die-for!).
For shopping, I’ll drop by The Foundary,
Miss Pixies, and
Good Wood, to pick up some home décor or accessories. I’m on a huge decorating kick, and I love the unique, vintage pieces these spots offer, at relatively affordable prices.
While I’m a wino, I also love a good Belgian beer. So, I turn to the
Standard Beer Garden in the summer, where it’s crowded and easy to make friends; and
Churchkey in the winter, which is cozy and warm even if it’s cold and dreary outside.
For coffee, I love the
Coffee Bar on 12th and Q.
And, if it’s been a long night of drinking, you can find me sitting at the bar at
Stoney’s eating a grilled cheese. (Actually, I’d prefer if you didn’t find me there!)
Perfect way to spend a Saturday in DC?
My ideal Saturday begins with me actually getting out of bed at a decent hour—a rarity, as I am not a morning person. I’ll get in a long run through Dupont, Georgetown, and down the C&O Canal. Then, drop by the Dupont Farmer’s Market on my way back home—all before brunch.
Midday, brunch, of course. I typically have to leave the neighborhood to try somewhere new.
After brunch, I’ll read magazines by the Penthouse Pool, which is like Miami in DC. It’s very chic, with red striped cabanas, chair-side service, and relaxed house tunes playing in the background.
On my way back down 14th Street, I’ll hit up a few shops, then read a book in Logan Circle, where I will inevitably fall asleep.
In the fall, there are all sorts of festivals—beer festivals, fall festivals, Turkish festivals, you name it—all around the City, so that’s a great way to spend an afternoon with friends once the weather cools down.
