Our City. Our Story. profiles engaging New York personalities, from the everyday to the very well-known, examining the place that 9/11 has taken in the greater context of their lives. Through these stories we see how New Yorkers, and the city itself, responded, coped and persevered. The series is hosted by Jenny Pachucki, an oral historian, and is produced by the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center.
With testimonies from survivors, reporters, elected officials and filmmakers, this is one podcast you should be subscribing too.

This week at the White House he President and Vice President welcomed America's "TOP COPS" to the White House to honor their remarkable service and sacrifice.
The TOP COPS are chosen each year by the National Association of Police Organizations, after being nominated by their fellow officers for their notable service during the previous calendar year.

First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden invited more than 100 military mothers and their families to the White House for a Mother’s Day Tea. The military mothers in attendance included military spouses, active duty and reserve service members, and women veterans.
While the military moms enjoyed tea and refreshments, more than 60 children made special gifts for their mothers including planting beans, decorating ceramic pots, and gift wrapping special White House honey lemon soap. The cards and crafts were presented during the tea ceremony in the State Dining Room.

This week, the President addressed the nation regarding the ongoing crisis in Syria. Watch the full remarks below.
The President, First Lady, Vice President Biden and Dr Biden joined White House staff on the South Lawn of the White House for a moment of silence at 8:46 AM ET – the time that the first airplane struck the World Trade Center. Later in the day, the President and First Lady participated in service projects to commemorate the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance.
The First Lady visited the USO Warrior and Family Center and the National Intrepid Center of Excellence, Intrepid Spirit One at Fort Belvoir, VA.
The National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and research of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), post-traumatic stress disorder, and other service related illnesses and injuries among service members, veterans and their families.
Mrs. Obama began her visit by completing a service project with military children at the USO Warrior Care Center. Together they created crafts for delivery to the NICoE and decorated a USO banner that will be displayed at a barbeque and concert for military families. Following her visit with military children, Mrs. Obama toured the NICoE and their rehab facilities. She met with military personnel recovering from PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and other service related injuries.

Some readers may be aware that I've just returned from a short vacation to New York City. Five days of fun in the Big Apple was just what I needed!
I went with one of my closest friends who has never visited the United States before, and who was quite possibly feeling like a kid at Christmas when he stepped off the plane. It was fun to watch his facial expressions as the taxi made its journey into the city, and I'm quite sure he looked like I did when I went to NYC for the first time aged eleven.
We stayed at the amazing Waldorf Astoria on Park Avenue, the pillar of luxury hotels in the city. It was my first time at the WA, and I would definitely stay there again. The luxury surroundings, sense of history and comfortable room really made our trip extra special. The location is excellent, and simply perfect for seeing the sights and shopping at all your favorite stores.
As it was my friend's first trip to the city, we indulged in many of the tourist attractions. On our first night we headed to the Top of the Rock which was fantastic. Considerably cheaper than the Empire State Building, I would very much recommend heading to the TOTR in the evening. We got to the top just as dusk was turning into night, resulting in some spectacular shaded skyline views. This was really one of the highlights. We visited the Empire State Building on our last night in the city, and despite being a scaredy-cat when it comes to heights, I felt calm and composed. Pay the extra $17 to head to the 102nd Floor, and beat the inevitable queues of tourists.
We also walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and visited Wall Street (for my accountant friend he was like a kid in a candy store!) Perhaps the most poignant part of the visit was paying our respects at the 9/11 Memorial. As someone who visited the World Trade Center before that awful day, I was glad to return to the sacred ground to see the two memorial pools. The visit was peaceful, the only sound the calming echoes of water from the fountains.
We also lunched at Serendipity (essential!) and I indulged in an awful lot of shopping (hello sales at J Crew, Kate Spade and Ann Taylor!)
The best way, as always, to see the city is to walk. Yes your feet may be wrecked by the end of your visit, but you will have had the whole NYC experience (and let's face it, who enjoys being stuck on the Subway?!)
