What's your history with Bethesda and Washington DC?
I have lived in the Washington D.C. area for a little over three years. I moved here after I graduated from the University of Richmond, and I moved to Old Town Alexandria with one of my best girlfriends from school. I love Old Town's historic vibe and feel, but when I decided to move again, I headed to Bethesda. I think I fell in love with Bethesda because it's like a modern little oasis just outside of the city. I work in downtown D.C., so I love feeling like I can escape from work/government/city life at the end of the day. Bethesda is an adorable neighborhood with great restaurants, bars, and shopping. I feel very much at home there because I can walk everywhere to run my errands, but there's plenty of grass, trees, and flowers to match a suburban lifestyle. I also love that it's a mix of young professionals like myself who live in the apartment buildings in Bethesda along with many young families who live in the beautiful homes nearby.
Discovering Bethesda- what are your favourite places to shop/eat/go with friends/people watch?
I have quite a few favorite places in Bethesda. I love to sit outside for date nights with my boyfriend, Doug, at either Mussel Bar for Belgian beer and seafood, or Raku for cocktails and sushi. Both restaurants have patios on the sidewalk outside the entrances and are great for people-watching and enjoying a late meal on a nice night. In the winter, Mussel Bar is also really cozy because of the casual-yet-intimate ambiance.
Sassanova is my favorite Bethesda boutique. The shop's pink and white awning in Bethesda Row attracted me right away and the curated pieces in the store are feminine, preppy, and classic. They have great shoes!
I also love that Bethesda has the Capital Crescent Trail where I go running. There are always people excersising on the trail, and it's shady, so it's great for a workout on a warm day. It goes right through the city and into Georgetown, so it's a fun place to travel along on a weekend afternoon.
Perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon in Bethesda?
Doug and I usually spend our Saturdays getting breakfast at Bethesda Bagels and sitting somewhere with coffee and papers to relax before the day begins. If it's nice out, we always like to do things around town like bike, jog, or walk, and when it's cold or rainy, we love exploring museums and historic venues in D.C. If it's more of a girly afternoon with my friends or sister, I shop!
