Presidential Medal of Freedom 2012

The President awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to receipients including former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and to retired Supreme Court associate justice John Paul Stevens at the White House yesterday. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation's highest civilian honor, and is presented to individuals who have made meritious contributions the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavours.

Michelle Obama promotes 'American Grown'

Michelle Obama was busy promoting her new book 'American Grown' on Good Morning America and The View earlier today.  Mrs Obama was interviewed by Robin Roberts, where she expected her role on her husband's 2012 re-election campaign to be "the same" as before. She also declared her favourite vegetables- broccoli, string beans, carrots and arugula. For this appearance Mrs O wore a pale blue tank, turquoise and white floraled skirt and an Alaia laser cut black belt.

Later in the day Mrs Obama appeared on The View, wearing a broderie anglaise white tank, lilac skirt and white and gold waist belt.

Marking Memorial Day

The President and First Lady, accompanied by Vice President and Dr Biden marked Memorial Day yesterday, visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Arlington Cemetery. Commemorations for 50 years since since the Vietnam War took place.

For her two appearances, Mrs O wears a floral dress by Tracy Feith (Arlington) and Moschino (Vietnam Memorial.)

The Obamas return to Chicago

The Obamas returned to their hometown of Chicago on Saturday in advance of the NATO summit. Open their arrival in O'Hare, the President and First Lady were greeted by Mayor Rahm Emanual and his wife Amy (whose wedged espadrilles we adore!)

Mrs O travelled in an olive hued wrap top paired with a Rachel Roy Runway to Green stencil skirt and navy patent Lanvin flats.

Michelle Obama welcomes G8 spouses to the White House

First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed the spouses of G8 leaders to the White House on Saturday, where they participated in a tour of the Executive Mansion led by Curator Bill Allman.

For this gathering, Mrs O wore a purple v neck dress with cut out detailing by the hem. An iris pin by Alexis Bittar accessorised the outfit.

Kennedy Museum Berlin moving to new premises

The Kennedy Museum in Berlin will be moving to new premises this summer. Opened in November 2006, the Kennedy Museum has established itself as a cultural institution in the German city. From Autumn 2012, 500 m2 of exhibition space will house Kennedy artefacts and memorabilia at its larger and permanent home at the Ehemalige Judische Madchenschule Berlin, with the notable Berliner Museumsinsel in the immediate vicinity.

You have until May 31st to visit The Kennedy Museum Berlin at its current premises at the Brandenburg Gate.

The Earliest Photograph of the White House

This great photograph of The White House was taken by John Plumbe Jr. in 1846. The 11th President of the United States, James Polk was the current inhabitant having succeeded John Tyler in 1845.

Interesting fact- the third floor of the White House and the Truman Balcony have not yet been constructed.

Michelle Obama delivers commencement address at NCA&T

The First Lady was in Greensboro, NC yesterday to deliver the commencement address for graduates at the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Mrs Obama was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Humanities.

On Friday, Mrs Obama delivered the commencement address for graduates at Virginia Tech.
