Politico reports on an excellent new publication where children involved with 826 National, a non profit writing and tutoring organisation have composed letters to Michelle Obama. The publication, titled I Live Real Close To Where You Used To Live: Letters to Michelle Obama, will be released on December 15th.

The President, First Lady and first daughters attended a basketball game between the Oregon State University Beavers, coached by Michelle Obama's brother Craig Robinson, and the Howard University Bison at Howard University, Washington DC yesterday. The President received 12 stitches in his lower lip the previous day due to a basketball inflicted injury.

The First Lady Receives the White House Christmas Tree

Mrs Obama accompanied by Malia and Sasha received the White House Christmas tree earlier this afternoon. The Douglas Fir from the Crystal Spring Tree Farm in Leighton, PA will stand proudly in the Blue Room of the White House.

For the event, the First Lady wore brown tweed pants, a white ruffled blouse and a deep gold colored cardigan with matching orange sequins. Sasha and Malia look equally as chic!

Giving Thanks with the Bidens

The Vice President and Dr Biden hosted a Thanksgiving dinner earlier this week for sick and wounded members of the military at the Naval Observatory. Traditional dishes such as turkey, green beans and caramel pumpkin pie were served to members and their families.

The First Family handed out Thanksgiving groceries at Martha's Table yesterday, marking the start of the Thanksgiving holiday. For the event, Mrs O wore a layered ivory sweater with a striking Prova lilac silk scarf embellished with a gunmetal beaded fringe and white pom poms.

Earlier in the day, Sasha and Malia joined the President in the annual pardoning of the turkey. This year's turkey was named Apple.

The First Ladies: Barbara Bush

Barbara Bush was born on June 8^th, 1925 in Flushing, New York, and raised in the suburban town of Rye. She attended boarding school in Charleston, South Carolina from 1940 to 1943, where she enjoyed athletics and reading.

She met George Herbert Walker Bush, then a student at Phillips Academy, Andover aged 16, at a Christmas dance. After a year and a half, they became engaged and Bush headed off to serve in World War II as a Navy torpedo bomber pilot. They married in January 1945, and moved around Eastern states of the USA whilst Bush completed his squadron training.

Their first child, George W Bush was born in 1946, and they later had five more children- Robin, Jeb, Neil, Marvin and Dorothy. After the war had ended, the family moved to Texas, where Bush worked in the oil business.

The Bushes have long been involved in politics, and following two terms as Vice President for President Reagan, they became President and First Lady. Barbara Bush’s interest was in literacy, becoming involved in many organisations, and serving on various literacy committees. Consequently, she developed the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. Bush was also active within the White House Historical Association, and the White House Endowment Fund. Over her time as First Lady, she helped to raise $25 million towards the preservation of the Nation’s House.

The post Bush White House years saw the couple return to their residence in Houston and Kennebunkport, Maine.  She continues her work within literacy.

Mrs O: Fashion and Fitness

The First Lady was in Newark and Harlem yesterday, visiting the Maple Avenue School in Newark, New Jersey where she discussed her Let's Move initiative with students and Mayor Cory Booker. Mrs O then visited the New York Police Athletic League's Harlem Center, joining in on a fitness session.

Two outfits were debuted today. The first, a gray tee shirt paired with a grey, gold and scarlet printed skirt, black belt and over the knee black boots were accompanied by a new, fantastic tasselled necklace.
Mrs O's second outfit were black athletic pants and a purple top. I really like the zingy-ness of the purple, it's a gorgeous colour!
