Icon #2: Meryl Streep

The Magic of Meryl...

As readers of my blog may have gathered, Meryl Streep is somewhat of an icon of mine. So it felt fitting that I dedicate my second post of the 'Icon' series to her greatness.

Meryl Streep was born on June 22nd, 1949 in Summit, New Jersey. She has two younger brothers, and received her BA in Drama from Vassar College, and an MFA from Yale.
Her debut screen performance was in Julia (1977), which was quickly followed by her second film, The Deer Hunter (1978). This earned her her first Academy Award nomination.

In 1979, Streep won her first Academy Award (above), for Supporting Actress in Kramer vs. Kramer. She repeated this success in 1982 for Best Actress in Sophie's Choice. Streep is the most nominated actress in film history, with a current total of 14 nominations.

In September 1978, Streep married sculptor Don Gummer, and the couple have four children, Henry, Mamie, Grace and Louisa.

Streep has appeared in many acclaimed films with some of the trade's finest actors. Productions include: Silkwood, The French Lieutenant's Woman, Out of Africa, Ironweed, Postcards from the Edge, Death becomes Her, Marvin's Room, The River Wild, One True Thing, Music of the Heart and Adaptation.

Recent works by Streep include The Hours, an HBO adaptation of Angels in America, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, the remake of The Manchurian Candidate, Prime, A Prairie Home Companion, The Devil Wears Prada and Mamma Mia!.

Meryl's current projects include Doubt and Julie and Julia which are due to be released late 2008 early 2009.

Streep is also a vetran of stage, appearing in performances of The Seagull and Mother Courage and her Children.

Streep is truly an inspiration, and follows is a pictorial tribute, highlighting many great moments in her career, as well as simply breathtaking photography.
